A little backstory

Throughout my childhood, I enjoyed losing time making things through natural curiosity and a labour love. Often spending endless hours sketching or collecting things over long summer holidays to turn in to something new. Creativity has always been part my life and with much of my professional years in Design Management and Consulting, getting back to a hands on craft was something I missed, and became the catalyst for how I discovered a new found appreciation for Barbering.

Coming from a family where both my grandfathers were Barbers in Kenya, East Africa - Barbering was naturally part of my upbringing, subtly entwined by bloodline and cultural heritage. Hearing the trade-side stories, to seeing my dads 1950’s Wahl Seniors as his prized possession and experiencing first hand, wider family passionate about a seemingly understated occupation, always intrigued me. In 2016,  I decided to take the step to explore my curiosity and trained with the London School of Barbering.

Over the years my appreciation of well made things trickled into places and experiences. Living in London for close to two decades exposed me to the edges of creative thinking from the hipster fashion, juxtaposed architecture to whisky bars hidden within the old city walls, all competing for your senses in there own distinct way. As purpose built venues for the grooming experience, I found a draw to and respect for Barbershops as places of both relaxation, refinement and innovation. From the feel of a cut-throat shave, the social chatter and buzzing of clippers, to the obsession of well engineered hardware - Barbering is one of the few trades that is both art and precision oriented. Timeless yet progressive, remaining essential to every gentlemen’s upkeep.
